Most of the illustrations are rubbish.
I love the pictures
A very well-produced fine-art book, this hefty and quite sumptuous volume presents a diverse and highly imaginative collection of artwork by 30 individual artists.Most of the artists work with digital media and several have a background in game and concept design; there is a certain irony to this, as generally the Steampunk ethos values the individualism and hand-crafts of traditional media - strange that it should be dominated by illustrators using those nasty modern computers, but that's a small point to make and most of them at least start with pencil and paper.No matter; the work is beautifully presented in large colour plates and printed on high quality glossy paper. The images are inspiring and of a very high standard throughout.Many of the illustrations are double-page spreads - which would have been a problem had this been a mere paperback - but the book is a well-bound hardback so the pages can be opened flat.There is a further selection of single works by an additional 10 artists rounding off the book; aside from a two-page introduction and single pages of text introducing each artist, a contact list and acknowledgement page, virtually the whole book is devoted to the artwork.This is easily the best book of 2-D Steampunk images I've seen yet, with very few duplications from other books; it is a truly international selection and some artist`s work I am sure is appearing in print form here for the first time (great to see some of Vadim Voitekhovitch`s evocative and meticulous oil paintings at long last).I can't recommend this book highly enough - grab it while its available at a good price, I have little doubt this will quickly exhaust its first print run.
